The Croft is getting a revamp, with exciting collaborations in the pipeline. If you’re interested in working with writers, graphic designers, photographers, artists, poets, musicians… we want to expand our creative talent as much as possible and make the magazine a space for exciting new ideas. If you’ve ever wanted to pick up experience in writing articles, learn digital design or take part in photoshoots - we'll be a safe space to explore this along with a team of other enthusiastic people.

Our available roles are:

Section Editors and Deputy Editors

You’ll be responsible for issuing commissions to writers, filling each section with articles on your section’s theme. No previous experience needed, but we ask that you are organised and enthusiastic - a lot of your role will involve being able to efficiently manage deadlines and create a cohesive section. Our themes are fashion, culture, wellbeing, food and lifestyle - please select which section you would most like to edit for. While we cannot guarantee that you will get your chosen section with a successful application, we’ll do our best to suit editors with a section that best suits them. For your interview, we’d love to hear a few ideas you might have for articles based on your favourite section - but please don’t worry, we’re not expecting any fully formed ideas!

Deputy Editors will look to assist the Section Editor in managing writers for commissions, while the Section Editors will be more responsible for thinking of articles and pulling the section together once all articles are complete.

Copy Editor

As Copy Editor, you’ll be responsible for refining the details of all the text of the magazine - writing experience is not necessary, but an eye for grammar and an understanding of language would be useful. You’ll be working across all sections, keeping an eye on our pre-written material and keeping The Croft’s writing to a high standard!

Social Media Manager

You’ll be in charge of our online presence, reaching out to Croft readers via Instagram and advertising our articles when the issues go to print. You’ll work with the Editors to get an understanding of the overall aesthetic, but we want you to have fun with it! We’d love somebody for this role with a sense of humour and eye for design.

Social Secretary

You’ll be responsible for communicating with venues to organise our staff socials and issue launch parties - we’re looking to make a lot more out of these, collaborating with other societies, using them to network and raise money. We'd love to hire someone who is enthusiastic about socials, but also has good organisational skills and money management.

Graphic Designer (Digital Editor)

As a member of The Croft’s Graphic Design team, you’ll be helping front and centre with the print layout of our monthly magazine. Whilst you value cohesive design and can follow brand guidelines, you should consider yourself an en extremely creative person who is eager to take design risks.

Previous experience with Adobe is preferred, but a willingness to learn, an affinity for graphic design, and a strong interest in the independent magazine scene are essential.

Photographer

As a Photographer for The Croft, you would work closely with our Co-Editors-in-Chief to help create a cohesive look and aesthetic for the print magazine, pitch and plan different ideas for photoshoots, and provide visual assets for articles. Taking this role would be a great way to build your portfolio alongside others.

We're also looking to use Photographers at our socials to take photos as events photographers, which would be a really fun part of your role!
