If you’re a fan of the arts, you could not have picked a better city than Bristol. The city has always been a home of artists from all sorts of creative disciplines!

As well as great people, Bristol has a number of respected artistic institutions, which act as pillars of the creative community. Three of the greatest of these are the Bristol Hippodrome, The Old Vic Theatre and the Bristol Museum and Art Gallery.

So, in order to help my fellow students get the most out of their years in this vibrant and artistic city, I have kindly pieced together some of the most exciting projects of these three titans of Bristol’s arts community.

The Bristol Hippodrome.

The Hippodrome is one of the UK’s biggest theatres venues and has hosted some of the greats of British theatre and comedy, and their line up for the next few months lives up to its reputation!

Our pick: Priscilla, The Musical | 28 September - 2 October

Based on the hilarious cult classic film, Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, this musical promises to be just as side-splitting and heart-warming as the original, with a groovy disco track to go with it. With tickets on sale from £13, this is sure to be an experience worth at least double what you pay!

The Old Vic

The Old Vic is even older than the Hippodrome (it first opened its doors in 1766!) and is always willing to open doors of opportunity to new talent, as well as host some pretty big shows. Fans of literature will consider their next show quite the treat!

Our pick: Wuthering Heights | 11 October - 6 November

Music and dance breathe new life into Emily Brontë's Yorkshire moors, as director Emma Rice offers up her take on this classic novel.

Bristol Museum and Art Gallery

The Bristol Museum and Art Gallery has always hosted a great deal of fantastic, forward-thinking exhibitions, and 2021 is no different.

Our pick: Bristol Photo Festival | currently - 31 October

This exhibition hosts photographers from a variety of backgrounds, with a variety of different points to make with their art. From James Bahnoor’s Pan- African futurism, to Martin Parr’s depiction of Post-War Britain and Ireland, there is something to pique every curious creative in this city!
